Like everyone, we are feeling the pinch and so I am trying to return to some good old fashioned ways of cooking and providing everyday food for my family....I sat down and started to write a BASIC list such as cheese, eggs, bacon, milk, flour, butter etc etc etc the sorts of foods that you can buy and keep in the fridge/storecupboard and make an variety of things with......such as on saturday morning I make egg and bacon and then I might use the eggs to make some cakes for the boys and then I may use the eggs and bacon and cheese and make a quiche.......
sooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!
Do any of you have any thrifty food ideas that you would like to share, some tips for adding simple ingrediants to make a meal special without breaking the bank ????

our favourite is tuna bake, but you have to like tuna. so easy pack of cannalloni (dont know how to spell) tub of sour cream, large tin of tuna, spaghetti sauce and grated cheese. mix sour cream with tuna. fill cannalloni tubes with mix and lay in a dish ( i use a square pirex dish)fit one layer in and then pour spaghetti sauce over top. top with grated cheese and put in moderate oven for 30-45 mins until top is golden and pasta is cooked. any questions just buzz by my blog and i will help you out. it is quick cheap and served with a salad my girls go crazy over it.

'Monday Pie'..to use up the left over meat from Sunday..
Mince the meat. Add to it a tin of baked beans and a tin of chopped tomatoes. Stir and put in an ovenproof dish, Top with cooked sliced potatoes.Grate some cheese on top. Cook for about 30-40 mins.
A basic meal...Very tasty!;-)
What about corned beef hash, cheap and cheerful. I just use a tine of corned beef, a tin of baked beans, potatoe, and fried onion, salt & pepper, and sometimes grated cheese on top. Very tasty, filling and cheap. xxx
We have a lot of rubber chicken - i.e. make it stretch. We have a roast with it on Sunday then lunch on the monday(sandwiches) plus perhaps a curry, then lunch with it on Tuesday(chicken and lemon cous cous) then chicken pie or stir fry on the tuesday and so on until it is used up. We always make stock from the bones then make chicken noodle soup. Yum.
With eggs we have frittatas and spanish omlettes etc.
I think I have a list somewhere on my blog - but I may have imagined that.
I'm going to do a grocery challenge in Feb, let me know if you fancy joining in?
Oh and we buy chorizo, it lasts ages and the smallest bit goes a long away. It can add a bit of taste and yummyness to anything from pasta to fish to omlettes and at about £4 for a couple of months worth of I'd say it's terrific.
Mmmmm very good question,
get someone else to buy the food :)
Ohooo I am rubbish on thrifty tips aren't I :)
Good Luck for my Giveaway
Love
